The School Day
Rec-Y6 children must be in class by 8:55am.
Rhodes Avenue Primary’s school day is in line with the Department for Education’s expectations for all schools to deliver a school week that has a minimum expectation of 32.5 hours per week.
Parents should drop Reception-Year 2 children off at their classroom door.
Children in Years 3 and 4 may be dropped off at their classroom door.
Children in Years 5 and 6 can enter the building and make their way up to their classrooms by themselves.
Children should not be left alone on the school premises before the school day starts. Learning starts promptly at the beginning of the school day. Being late will put a child at a great disadvantage. Any child who arrives after the start of the school day should report to the school office to be signed in as late, before heading to their classroom.
Soft start
The school operates a soft start at the beginning of the day (8.45-8.55am). This time is a gentle, relaxed beginning to the school day that allows children to transition into the learning environment. This time also supports parents who have multiple drop offs. We request that parents with multiple drop offs drop off their youngest children first.
Reception
School Day – 8.45am-3.15pm
Total hours – 32.5 hours per week
Infants (Years 1+2)
School Day – 8.45am-3.20pm
Total hours – 32 hours and 55 minutes per week
Juniors (Years 3-6)
School Day – 8.55am-3.30pm
Total hours – 32 hours and 55 minutes per week
At the end of the school day we ask that children are collected on time. It is distressing for a child, when everybody else has gone home, to be left at school. We understand that problems do arise, but if parents telephone us, we can reassure your child that you are on the way. Children not collected will be automatically sent to After School Club until they are collected and the relevant charge will be added to the child’s School Money account.
Playtimes
There is a morning and afternoon playtime of 15 minutes each in the infants and juniors (not Reception). The timings of playtimes are as follows:
Infant playtimes – 10.30-10.45am and 2.15-2.30pm
Junior playtimes – 10.50-11.05am and 2.15-2.30pm
Lunchtimes
Reception 11.40am-1.05pm
Year 1 – 11.50am-1.05pm
Year 2 – 11.55am-1.05pm
Years 3-6 – 12.15-1.15pm
The school is part of the scheme run by the Department of Education where infant children receive a piece of fruit or vegetable a day. Junior children can also bring a piece of fruit or a healthy snack from home to eat during morning playtime. Children are encouraged to bring a bottle of water which can be refilled at school and is available to them in the classroom throughout the day.
We encourage everyone who can to walk, scoot or cycle to and from school. We kindly request that parents driving to school do not park on the yellow lines, school zig zag lines and across the drives of houses.
Dogs are not permitted on school grounds under any circumstances and ask that you do not bring dogs of any kind onto the school grounds.
Children should not bring valuable items such as jewellery or mobile phones into school.
